Concerns the nature of the skies, stars, planets, comets, their origins and their motion in general terms, beginning with views of the ancient Greeks (Plato and Pythagoras), the Bible and the writings of Church Fathers (Augustine), and finally contemporary astronomers (Kepler and Newton). The author mentions the comet of 1680, which played a considerable role in Newton's Principia, published in 1687.
